Brazil Establishes Committee to Assess Impact of US Tariffs and Discuss Countermeasures
According to Jinse Finance, citing CCTV News, on the 14th local time, Brazil established the "Negotiation and Trade Countermeasures Committee" to assess the potential impact on its economy of U.S. President Trump's announcement of a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods, and to discuss possible response measures. At a press conference held on the 14th, Brazil's Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, and Trade, Alckmin, stated that the committee would hold two meetings with the industrial and agricultural sectors on the 15th local time. Alckmin noted that engaging in broad dialogue with exporters is the Brazilian government's first step in responding to the Trump administration's tariff policy. He stated that if the U.S. tariff policy takes effect, Brazil will implement countermeasures. The committee is chaired by Alckmin. President Lula of Brazil will also meet with some entrepreneurs through this committee.
