Russia Cracks Down on Illegal Bitcoin Mining Operation, Seizes 95 Mining Devices
According to Cointelegraph, law enforcement authorities in the Republic of Buryatia, Russian Federation, uncovered an illegal cryptocurrency mining operation hidden inside a Kamaz truck during a routine inspection of power lines in the Lake Baikal region. The truck was drawing electricity from a 10 kV line and contained 95 mining devices along with a mobile substation. However, two individuals involved in the case fled the scene in an SUV before the police arrived. Buryat Energy Company, a subsidiary of Siberian Energy Company, stated that there have been six cases of electricity theft related to cryptocurrency mining since the beginning of this year.
