Ripple CEO’s Bold Prediction for XRP

Brad Garlinghouse, Ripple’s CEO, dropped an interesting thought at the recent XRPL Apex event. He suggested the XRP Ledger could handle up to 14% of SWIFT’s transaction volume within five years. That’s a big claim—but if it happens, the numbers get wild pretty fast.

Garlinghouse didn’t dwell on hype, though. He pointed out that SWIFT’s real value isn’t just messaging—it’s moving money across borders. And liquidity, he argued, is what really matters. Whether XRP can pull this off is another question, but the idea alone has people talking.

What 14% of SWIFT’s Volume Actually Means

After Garlinghouse’s comments, someone ran the math. Using xAI’s Grok, an X user called “XRPMillionaire” crunched the numbers. SWIFT processes around $150 trillion a year. So, 14% of that? $21 trillion annually. Break it down further, and you’re looking at roughly $58 billion in daily volume.

Even a slower ramp-up—say, 2.8% per year over five years—still lands at $4.2 trillion annually. That’s not exactly pocket change. The post took a playful jab at XRP skeptics too, joking that maybe the token shouldn’t be priced at $8, but “$8 with a few extra zeroes.”

What This Could Mean for XRP’s Price

Right now, XRP is sitting around $2.24, still far from its all-time high. But if the ledger starts processing trillions? Well, that changes things. Some estimates put XRP at $12 if it hits that $21 trillion volume, assuming the token circulates about 30 times a year. Others think institutional demand could push it higher—maybe even $18 to $24.

Of course, predictions are just that. The market’s unpredictable, and plenty has to go right for these numbers to materialize. Still, the idea of XRP handling even a slice of SWIFT’s action has given the community a fresh dose of optimism.

The Bigger Question: Who Gets the Rest?

One thing “XRPMillionaire” pointed out, though, is worth thinking about. If XRP takes 14%, who handles the other 86%? SWIFT isn’t going away, and other blockchains are already working with them. Chainlink, for example, has real-world ties to SWIFT.

So while XRP’s potential is huge, it’s not the only player. The competition is real, and the next few years could get interesting. For now, though, Garlinghouse’s comments have given the XRP crowd plenty to chew on. Whether it plays out? We’ll see.
