Brave becomes the first mainstream web browser to launch its own on-chain domain
According to The Block, the privacy browser Brave has partnered with Unstoppable Domains to launch ".brave" blockchain domain names, becoming the first mainstream web browser to have its own on-chain domain names.
These domain names will be minted as NFTs on the Polygon blockchain, require no renewal fees, can replace complex crypto wallet addresses, and support hosting decentralized websites on IPFS.
The ".brave" domain names will be natively supported for resolution in Brave browser version 1.81 (expected to be released in August 2025) and plans to apply for ICANN generic top-level domain registration in 2026 to achieve full compatibility between Web2 and Web3 environments.
