According to Korean media reports, actress Hwang Jung-eum has been indicted for allegedly embezzling funds from her agency, which she actually controls, to invest in cryptocurrency. On May 15, the Jeju District Court held the first public trial for the case. According to the indictment, Hwang Jung-eum embezzled a total of 4.34 billion won from the company between early 2022 and December, of which 4.2 billion won was used for cryptocurrency investment.

Hwang Jung-eum's lawyer admitted to the charges, stating that the investment in cryptocurrency was made with the consideration of developing the company and emphasized that the company's profits ultimately belong to Hwang Jung-eum. Currently, Hwang Jung-eum has repaid part of the losses through the sale of cryptocurrency and plans to sell real estate. The court accepted the request, allowing the continuation of compensation-related procedures.
