Slow Fog Warning: Hackers use fake video calls to carry out social engineering attacks, users need to be vigilant
The SlowMist security team has issued a safety alert, warning of a recent surge in social engineering attacks carrying malicious software. Hackers trick victims into downloading malicious scripts through fake video call links, thereby stealing sensitive information.
In the latest case, attackers first hacked into the victim's friend's Telegram account and then used this account to initiate a fake video call to lower the target's vigilance. The SlowMist team reminds users that if they are attacked, they should immediately take the following measures:
1: Protect assets: If wallet private keys/mnemonic words have been stored on your computer, you should transfer funds as soon as possible.
2: Change password & 2FA: Immediately update accounts such as Telegram, X, email, exchanges etc., and check for abnormal login records.
3: Run full disk antivirus scan: Use well-known antivirus software like AVG, Bitdefender or Kaspersky to scan your system.
4: Reset system (if necessary): Backup important files; reinstall system and ensure thorough virus scanning before recovery.
Users should be vigilant to avoid clicking on unknown video call links and ensure asset safety.
