Japanese Bitcoin Treasury Firm Metaplanet Issues 2 Billion Yen in Bonds for BTC Reserves Expansion
Japanese Bitcoin treasury company Metaplanet has recently issued 2 billion Japanese yen ($13.35 million) in bonds to further increase its BTC reserves, continuing a trend that began in May 2024. On February 27, Metaplanet announced the issuance of 0% ordinary bonds worth 2 billion yen for the seventh time to buy Bitcoin (BTC). The company will issue 40 ordinary bonds, each with a face value of 50 million yen, redeemable in full on August 26, 2025. The proceeds will go to Evo Fund, Metaplanet’s dedicated Bitcoin acquisition fund. Since May 13, 2024, Metaplanet has made 17 Bitcoin purchases, with the largest being a 619.7 BTC acquisition on December 20, 2024, bringing their total holdings to 2,235 BTC valued at around $192.4 million. The company's stock prices have seen significant fluctuations, with a surge following Bitcoin acquisitions but currently trading around 4,000 yen. Metaplanet aims to acquire 10,000 Bitcoin by Q4 2025 and increase total holdings to 21,000 BTC by the end of 2026, worth $2 billion at current market prices.
