Ethereum Foundation researcher Alex Stokes announced that he will co-lead the Ethereum Foundation with barnabe.eth. He also introduced the launch of the Ethereum Foundation Research department, which will consist of five teams:

1. Application Research Group (ARG): Helps to translate theory into practice;

2. Consensus R&D: Many interests are focused on improving the consensus layer;

3. Cryptography: Uses interesting mathematics to reduce trust in each part of the stack;

4. Protocol Security: Uses various tools and bug bounty programs to ensure the security of software and specifications behind networks;

5. RIG: Economic/game theory perspectives reinforce Ethereum's unique mechanisms.
