During his official visit to Argentina, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele met with Argentina’s Vice President, Victoria Villarruel, to discuss cryptocurrency, particularly Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) and the Salvadoran experience with it.

The meeting touched on a range of topics, including the adoption of Bitcoin as legal tender in El Salvador and the proposed but delayed "volcano bonds."

In a video released before the private meeting, Villarruel expressed keen interest in Bitcoin, stating, “I personally want to use these short minutes to talk to you about Bitcoin, it’s something that interests me a lot.”

She also inquired about the “volcano bonds,” a financial mechanism proposed by Bukele to fund the development of a Bitcoin-centric city, known as Bitcoin City.

The bonds, which have been in limbo for several years, were designed as a key part of this ambitious project announced in 2021.

After the meeting, Villarruel revealed that they also discussed cryptocurrency regulation.

She mentioned on social media, “We were able to talk about the implementation of Bitcoin, the creation of the CNAD (National Commission of Digital Assets), which is the first body that provides a legal framework and regulation for cryptoassets.”

The meeting signifies Argentina's increasing interest in cryptocurrency regulation, though President Milei did not include Bitcoin in his official agenda during Bukele’s visit.

However, Milei has stated previously that he envisions a future where Bitcoin could be used alongside other currencies in a competitive currency environment.

At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price was $61,111.08.
