Microsoft Azure, the company’s cloud platform, is currently facing a major disruption this Wednesday. The outage began around midday Eastern Time, and Microsoft has confirmed the problem on its official status page.
Microsoft stated, “We believe this incident may have been caused by an unintentional configuration modification.” The company has yet to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume.
A number of Microsoft’s services, such as Microsoft 365, Xbox, and Minecraft, have been impacted and are currently unavailable. In addition, websites for other companies, including Costco and Starbucks, cannot be accessed.
This disruption comes just a few hours before Microsoft is set to release its quarterly earnings later today.
The incident follows a similar outage that hit Amazon AWS last week, which disrupted several websites, financial institutions, and some government platforms.
