California surpasses Japan to become the world's fourth largest economy
the office of the Governor of California announced that California has surpassed Japan to become the world's fourth largest economy. According to data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the US Bureau of Economic Analysis, California's nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has reached $4.1 trillion, surpassing Japan's $4.02 trillion, ranking only behind the United States, China, and Germany. At the same time, California's economic growth rate has also surpassed the top three global economies; over the past four years, California's economy has continued to grow strongly, with an average annual GDP growth rate of 7.5% from 2021 to 2024.
