Report: SEC Implemented 46 Enforcement Actions Related to Cryptocurrency in 2023
A new report by Cornerstone Research reveals that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) implemented 46 enforcement actions related to cryptocurrency in 2023, marking a record high since 2013. The report highlights that the SEC has taken a total of 173 enforcement actions against cryptocurrency entities since 2013. In comparison, the SEC filed only 30 cryptocurrency-related lawsuits in 2022, making the increase in 2023 over 50%. Of the lawsuits filed, 61% were charged with violations of securities laws, and 57% were accused of fraud under the Securities Act or Exchange Act regulations.
